Linda Perry at BMI’s “How I Wrote That Song 2014″

Linda Perry & Charlie Wilson

This weekend Linda Perry joined fellow songwriters and producers Charlie Wilson, Wiz Khalifa, Alex Da Kid, and more at BMI’s “How I Wrote That Song” panel. The pre-grammy event took place at the House of Blues in Los Angeles January 25. Linda shared her insight to writing her famous hits “Beautiful” and “Get The Party Started” as did the others, all of whom come from a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences that influence their work. Check out this amazing quote from Linda:

Linda Perry on writing Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful”
“I’ve always been a very insecure person. I know I come off as a porcupine and kind of strong, but I’m not. I’m very fragile. I sat down at the piano and started writing… I’m playing the song and it gets to the chorus, ‘I am beautiful.’ As soon as I heard myself say ‘I am beautiful,’ I freaked out. I took the foot off the pedal. I was thought, ‘I can’t say that, I don’t think that about myself.’ I thought I was writing a song about somebody else. The second chorus came in, ‘You are beautiful,’ and the third chorus, ‘We are beautiful.’ And the song started making sense to me… Christina started singing it, and then it hit me: This isn’t about what the song is about. It’s about someone who doesn’t think they’re beautiful and they’re trying to find power within themselves to change their whole outlook on life.”

Rainy Milo Featured In The Observer’s Rising Stars of 2014

Rainy Milo at Bush Studios in west London.

Rainy Milo was recently featured in the Observer’s “Rising Stars of 2014″ in music. From writing lyrics on her iPhone and finding inspiration in free jazz to carving her own niche in pop music, Rainy is the farthest thing from slowing down. Here’s an excerpt:

“Milo’s recent single, Rats, was a dreamy, near-perfect bit of pop-R&B that gathered in essences of brilliant Londoners – a bit of Amy, Lily, Sade, MIA – without ever veering into pastiche. Milo, who will put out her debut LP in 2014, says she’ll happily take a career like the latter two.”
